I am so glad Dhara chose me as ” A Saree” for Diwali and not an Indo-western dress or salwar suit. The minute she decided to wear me, I started dreaming of flowing in the air like Karan Johar Movies and singing ” Ladki Badi Anjani Hai.. sapna hai sach hai kahaani hai….!”
How many years have I waited to be worn… Umm, first, let me introduce myself. I am a Georgette saree. My height is 5.5 meters, and the color is Yellow and Gaajari color. I have a beautiful big zig-zag geometric line in my Paalav and all over Buttas. But I remember Dhara mentioning that she loved my colorful tassels in the end, which makes me more appealing.
You all must be wondering where she got me from. So, I am the blessing she got from her mother-in-law during her wedding shopping. On one fine day, Dhara, her sister, mother, mother-in-law, and her father-in-law came to “SIA,” Vadodara. Like a regular customer, they wanted more silk sarees, the latest trend sarees like Patola silk and Banarasi Silk. I was in the corner, wondering how they would choose me on earth.
Suddenly, a well-trained salesperson at the showroom pulled me out and draped me on himself. Everybody there immediately fell in love with my vibrant color and georgette fabric feel. I don’t flaunt, but I am a masterpiece!!! I remember her mother-in-law, especially liked me. And they finally took me home!! Hurray!!
I had mixed feelings while leaving all my lifelong saree friends, but my permanent partner, Blouse Piece, was coming with me. However, they send it away for a while to get it stitched. Before I got packed and became a part of Dhara’s trousseau, she introduced me to a new friend, “Skirt,” whom they sometimes called “Chaniya” and “Petikot.”
For almost a year, but she never looked at me the way she looked at me while purchasing me, and my dream of becoming a flowing Saree was still on hold until she pulled me out on Diwali Morning and wore me for her first Diwali after marriage in her new home. I felt overwhelmed and emotional, like sticking with her throughout the day and trying to make her comfortable. She took me to the temple, showed me to her guests, and clicked many pictures.
A sunny and windy fall day in America was never my dream; the weather was perfect for my Karan Johar moment, and I flew, but I couldn’t; she draped me in a proper Gujarati way where front plates were tied neatly and less exposure for me to flow around.
The best part is that she paired me with an exact matching Bangle set. We chit-chat during the day and tried to become friends, but I didn’t like them much as they were pulling out threads from me. But I never knew how a Skirt (Chaniya) became a very important part of me like a blouse. I don’t want them to leave me ever!!
Now, I am all folded neatly and wrapped back in a saree cover, waiting for my new chance to go out, but my heart says it will take years before she will wear me again. Please write a comment and let her know what you think about the blog and her saree.
Very impressive and well written. I don’t have much knowledge of Sarees but I do definitely connect with this “sari”.
The description is beautiful from your saree point of view. She seems to be loving “the-raw.” Amazing to read!!
