What Indian textile is Alia Bhatt’s new saree look?

Alia Bhatt Ajrakh Saree 2024

Whatever Alia Bhatt wears becomes the trend. Isn’t it? But how wonderful is it that she promotes Indian Textile print at the International level!! When I saw her at JOY AWARDS 2024 wearing an Ajrakh Print Saree by Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla, I felt this was the trend I looked forward to. Do you recall her wearing a royal blue Bandhani Lehenga by Sabyasanchi?? I actually ended up buying the same theme-inspired lehenga as well. Let me know in a comment if you want to see a picture of that.

Let’s talk about the look; the classic saree silhouette with earthy color palette and half-tied hairstyle is like a divine devi. But do you know anything about the Ajrakh Printing?

— Fun FACT

Name “Ajrakh” might have also drawn from Sanskrit word ” A-jharat”, which means “One does not fade”.

What is Ajarakh Print?

Ajrakh Print is one form of textile printing from Sindh, Pakistan, and especially in the Village in Kutch named “Ajrakhpur.” The technique involves print over a print, which creates a painstaking effect. The cotton fabric becomes delightful to the eye and the skin. The most appealing to me is that the printing colors are mainly environment-friendly, derived from herbs and minerals, creating colors like red, blue (Indigo), and green. That makes me wonder, how rich is our Indian history and textile, isn’t it?? Designs are developed with designers and artisans and are largely sky-inspired, where black symbolizes the sky, blue in the night sky, red for the evening, and stars in the sky.

— What makes Ajrakh suitable around the year?

In the summertime, pores of the fabric expand, which makes air pass easily, and in Winter, the process closes, which gives warmth to the wearer.

Let’s look at some of my favorite designs,
